Grilling is in the air!  Fresh sweet corn is a sign of summer, whether it’s from the grocery store, farmer’s market, or a roadside stand.  It is a true summer treat and a vegetable every one of my kids enjoys Download instagram windows 10!

It is simple and delicious and goes perfect with burgers or just about anything else you might be preparing on the grill!  Recently when the kids were joining us for dinner, we decided to make some corn on the grill in the husk.  We cooked them directly on a hot grill and because we soaked them for a while before placing them on the high heat, the husks protect the corn from getting dried out kostenlos mahjong shanghai downloaden.

Ingredients:

4-6 ears fresh Corn, in their husks (one per person)
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/4 Cup Kosher Salt
Butter, for serving
Salt & Pepper

Start by cutting some of the “hair’ off the end of each husk with a kitchen scissors.  Also shorten the stem so they will fit evenly into a bowl of water.  Stir the salt & sugar into the warm water until dissolved and soak the corn in their husks for at least an hour.  Rotate the cobs from time to time during the soaking time virenschutz kostenlos.
Prepare your grill (gas or charcoal) by pre-heating to a high heat temperature (about 400-500°)
The corn will take about 20 minutes, so time it along other items that you may be preparing on the grill.  Place the corn in their husks on the hot grill rollercoaster tycoon free full version nederlands. Close the over and turn the cobs occasionally, until the husks are charred on all sides

Once all sides are charred, remove corn from grill.  Allow the corn to sit for about five minutes.  Recruit the young adults waiting for dinner and have them use a paper towel to protect their hands while removing the hot silks and charred husks from the corn.   Serve hot as a side dish with butter and seasoned with salt & pepper zoom downloaden chip!

We enjoyed this beautiful grilling day with a nice Pine Ridge Merlot!  YUM illegal downloaden schweiz!

Homemade Chicken Stock

Written By: Chris - Jun• 27•12

I’ve explained how to make homemade chicken stock within some of the soup recipes in the past.  I use chicken stock in a lot of different dishes and decided to clean out the freezer again last weekend while I was on a Sunday cooking spree!  Every time we eat a whole chicken (or turkey) whether it came from the store or I have cooked it for the family, I never discard the skin and/or bones.  Once the majority of the meat has been picked clean from the carcass, I tuck the remainder of the chicken into a freezer bag and stow it away until I have a few and am running low on fresh stock Download videos from facebook mac.

You can freeze or can your stock to have on hand for future dishes and it is just so much better than the plain old chicken broth off of the grocery shelf how can I with itunes.

Ingredients:

Chicken carcass’
Onion (including ends and/or peeling)
Celery stocks and leaves
(Any kitchen greens/veg peelings/scraps)
Garlic clove
Salt
Carrots or peelings
Pepper Corns
Water

It really doesn’t take much more than that video downloaden van youtube naar mp4!

To get started assembling the chicken stock…  If you are preparing another dish, do not discard your vegetable scraps or peels.  You can add them to make a more flavorful stock.  Start by placing  the bones and skin of the chicken into a stock pot.  Add any carrots, onions and any unused washed celery parts to the chicken carcass.  If you enjoy garlic like our family does, smash a whole cloves of garlic (no need to peel) and also add to the pot gpxen op ipad. Fill pot nearly to the top with water covering the scrap ingredients and add a couple of tablespoons of salt and pepper or whole peppercorns to make soup base stock Download tolino app books.

Bring to a low simmer, cover and allow to cook for at least an hour minimum, but I’ll often leave mine on the lowest setting of my gas range for two days huawei p8 lite fotos herunterladen.

Allow to cool somewhat and then drain the chicken stock & scraps into a large colander retaining the chicken stock into a larger clean bowl sketchup vollversion kostenlos downloaden.

Discard the ingredients except the juice in the pot.  Using a separator, remove and toss the heavy fats and oil layer from the stock by allowing to settle for a bit before adding the fresh stock into your storage containers Download crysis 3 for free in full!

Peach Sangria with fresh Basil!

Written By: Chris - Jun• 26•12

Monday nights with the girls (to watch our “smut” show)…  Our friend Eileen is always packing an interesting or fun cocktail to share at our gatherings.  Sometimes it’s a box or even a bottle of red wine with a goofy name such as “Broke Ass”; other times she has brought along an interesting variety of beer, but I think the gals enjoy when she makes one of her concoctions of fruit, herbs and booze word templates!

This week was no different!  We typically communicate through out the day about what type of appetizer we each are preparing to share, but Eileen’s message included that she would be sharing some Peach Sangria’s with fresh Basil!  It is in season after all!  After tasting her cocktail, I decided I had to post this very first beverage to the blog Download mahjong titans for free!

I don’t usually go too far out of the box with cocktails.  I’m usually conscientious about the sugar in some of the “fu-fu” drinks and I have to admit that the basil in a peach sangria seemed a bit strange, but I’ve tried a Basil Martini before – and recently had a Cilantro Margarita, so why not?  I’m happy to say that it was a perfect touch to this drink and it was simply delicious woozle app!

She shared her recipe with me, so I’m giving her all of the credit!

Ingredients:

1 Cup (loosely packed) fresh Basil leaves

Broccoli & Cauliflower Salad

Written By: Chris - Jun• 25•12

I love Broccoli & Cauliflower!  Although my own gang doesn’t love the fresh vegetables as much, I’m always trying to offer them up in a variety of ways hoping they find something that they too will enjoy.  One of the salads that catches my eye in the deli is the broccoli salad that has bacon, cheese and nuts.  This is one of the easiest throw together salads that you can enjoy while saving on the high costs in the deli by making it at home.  It literally takes less than 10 minutes.  Salads are always better when you make them yourself because you are guaranteed they are fresh aldi süd herunterladen!

Summer is in the air and most of my guests love cold salads.  My friend David loves this salad and so does my mother in law.  I’ve even got Bill trying this one in small portions now… so I don’t have to eat it alone google play filme und serien herunterladen.

I choose light mayo and omit the cheese.  It is every bit as tasty and it helps make it a bit more healthy!

Ingredients:

4 Cups Broccoli
1 1/2 Cup Cauliflower
1/3 Cup red Onion
1/3 Cup Bacon, crumbled (I use the real bacon by Kirkland at Costco and keep it on hand in the freezer!)
2/3 Cup Craisins
1 Cups Mayonnaise (I use 1/2 light!  You may need more to your liking)
2 Tablespoons Splenda
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 Cup Roasted and Salted Sunflower seeds
Salt & Pepper to taste

Chop broccoli and cauliflower into smaller bit size pieces.  Combine mayonnaise, splenda, vinegar and salt & pepper.  Add diced red onions and mix gently with vegetables.  Add crumbled bacon, craisins and sunflower seeds Download icloud photos in full.

Chill & Enjoy!
