Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes

I was having the kids and Bills folks over for dinner recently and was planning to serve a couple of types of burgers.  They all love potatoes, but I hoped to change them up.  I pulled most of the ingredients for this dish from Martha Stewart after much searching on the Internet.  Because I always work with ingredients that I have on hand, I incorporated some additional items and changed things up a bit.  I added some caramelized onions and garlic; removed the heavy cream choosing a “bit healthier” half and half and it didn’t lose all of the richness it would have if just using milk.  Since I forgot to take a photo of the finished product, I borrowed her image off the Internet filme aus netflix downloaden!

Gratins is a widely used culinary technique in food preparation in which an ingredient is topped with a browned crust; in this case its potatoes.  Gratins are known by various names.  In North America, the dish is referred to as scalloped potatoes, potatoes au gratin, or au gratin potatoes.  In French-speaking Canada, the dish is referred to as patates au gratin freecell kartenspiel kostenlosen. Ingredients:

3 Pounds Potatoes, I had Yukon Gold and Russets
2 Garlic Cloves, pressed
1/2 Onion, medium caramelized with garlic in a bit of oil
2 Tablespoons Oil
1-2 Tablespoons Butter, softened
Salt & Pepper, to taste
Nutmeg, about 1/2 Nut grated
2-3 Tablespoons Dried Thyme
4 Cups Skim Milk
1 Cup Half & Half

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Wash and peel potatoes.  I used a mandoline to get them sliced very thin.

Combine sliced potatoes and milk in a large saucepan over high heat and bring to a boil.  Once it has reached the boil, immediately reduce heat to low and cover simmering until potatoes the are just tender, about three to five minutes.  Add the half and half and stir them from time to time herunterladen.

Roasted Brussels Sprouts

One of the vegetables I’ve grown to love are Brussels Sprouts!  (Bill, not so much.)  These little gems are a cultivated bunch of wild cabbage that are selected for their leafy and small green buds, which commonly just look like mini cabbages.  I didn’t grow up loving cabbage, but really enjoy it now.  I think it’s all in how you prepare it!  They are a good source of protein, iron and potassium and they also offer other benefits that can boost your overall health.  I’ve gotten Bill and others to eat them by adding bacon, but since I’ve heard they can provide some special cholesterol-lowering benefits, that sort of defeats the purpose!  Something I learned early, is that is very important not to over cook Brussels sprouts amazon zum herunterladen. Ingredients:

1/2 Pounds Brussels Sprouts
1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
Kosher Salt & Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Brussels sprouts start out looking much like broccoli and cauliflower, but as time goes on the plants start to get taller, with lots of leaves coming from the sides of the plants.  I had no idea… until I spotted them in a Trader Joes some time ago!  Sprouts form in the leaf axles of the plants and begin forming at the base of the plant, and then gradually move up.  As sprouts get larger, the plant gets taller and produces more leaves and therefore more leaf axles to produce sprouts in.  Here is an image I pulled from the Internet!

Fresh Apple and Cabbage Cole Slaw

We were going to attend our monthly “Winers” group recently.  It is a great group of friends who appreciate good wine, good food and good company!  Each of us pitches in on preparing appetizers and wine to share.  Since I was not hosting on this evening, I wanted to bring something different.  Though this coleslaw could be eaten as a side dish, I had taken some left over pulled pork from the freezer along with a couple of baguette loafs and was thinking how great it would be an accompaniment to my pork netflix herunterladen dauer!  It is a delicious coleslaw that has a wonderful combination of sweet crisp apples and fresh crunchy cabbage!  

I was inspired to create this recipe after eating something similar while dining out at one of our favorite spots.  Though I hadn’t taken a photo of dinner the night I ate the slaw, I believe that even if I had I’m not sure how much of it would have been noted because it is served in a very small ramekin along side of most of the dishes.  The version I had eaten out had a very creamy consistency and contained mostly apples for the body of it.  I wanted to create a slaw that contained more crisp vegetables and wanted to make my version colorful herunterladen!

Ingredients:

2 Cups Cabbage, cut into thin strips
1 Carrot, julienned
1 Crisp Red Apple, julienned
1 Green Apple, julienned
1/3 Red Pepper, julienned
2 Green Onions, cut thin
1-2 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 Cup Mayonnaise
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tablespoon White Wine Vinegar
1/2 Tablespoon Cayenne Pepper
Salt & Pepper, to taste

Easy Chicken and Peppers

This is dish prepared with ingredients that I typically have on hand, that includes outstanding flavor that is so easy to make!  Savory tender sautéed chicken and sweet colorful mixed peppers are all of Bill’s favorites.  I know it’s going to be just delicious while he doesn’t realize I didn’t have to work too hard preparing it!  A simple salad and doctored up biscuit mix made this a win-win meal adobe sign herunterladen!

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Seasoned Olive Oil
10 Chicken Tenderloin, skinless, boneless
Salt and Pepper, to taste
1 Onion, medium thinly sliced
2 Garlic Cloves, pressed
Mini Bell Peppers to equal about 1 1/2 Cups:

Red Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
Yellow Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
Orange Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
1 Tablespoon Basil, dried
1 Tablespoon Balsamic Vinegar
1/2 Cup Six Cheese Italian Variety, shredded

Heat 1 of the tablespoons of olive oil (I use the infused sun-dried tomatoes and basil type) with in a large skillet over medium-high heat.  Saute the onions and cook about five minutes until they become translucent and soft.  Add the garlic and cook for an additional two to three minutes Download tantra music for free.

I like the Harissa Infused Oil while cooking the chicken because it adds a terrific punch and is especially flavorful with roasted or caramelized vegetables herunterladen!  Harissa is made with (often smoked) chili peppers, garlic, caraway, coriander, cumin pounded to a paste, then left to develop its flavors.  I picked this up in Napa, but you can find it in stores or on line!  I suggest you give it a try download excel formulare for free.

Once the onions are tender, stir in the peppers and garlic and continue to cook over medium high heat until the peppers feel al dente; about three to five minutes fortnite pc.    Mix in the basil and balsamic vinegar, season with salt and pepper.  Remove from pan and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the Harissa oil and heat over medium-high heat.  Place the chicken that has been seasoned with salt and pepper (season in layers!) and brown on both sides but do not cook through datei mit puttyen.

Place chicken onto a baking sheet.  Spoon on the sautéed vegetables and top with cheese.  Place in an oven that has already been heated for the biscuits and bake for another 10 minutes, or until chicken is no longer pink and juices run clear.  Just long enough for the cheese to melt and brown pages für mac download kostenlos.

Turkey Sausauge Tarragon Hotdish

I was able to create a really easy and savory meal by using Hillshire Farm Turkey Smoked Sausage.  This dish was hearty and savory and included the smoked Sausage, which is made with quality cuts of turkey and slow-cooked natural flavors.  It had been sitting in my freezer waiting to be eaten!  It was easy to deliver a satisfying dish for Bill and I simply by combining the sausage with fresh vegetables and a couple of other Ingredients that I had on hand!  You will enjoy the creamy, sharp flavors within because the Tarragon has an aromatic property reminiscent of anise.  Very different, but good!  Give this one a try Download spiderman app for free!

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1 Onion, medium chopped
1 Hillshire Farm Turkey Smoked Sausage
Red, Yellow and Orange Bell Peppers, chopped into bite sized pieces
2 Celery Stocks, chopped
1 Carrot, large chopped
1 Garlic Clove, pressed
2 Tablespoons Flour
1/2 Cup Chicken Stock
1/2 Cup Half and Half
2 Tablespoons Tarragon White Wine Vinegar
1 Tablespoons French Tarragon, dried
Salt and Pepper, to taste
2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese, grated
No Yolk Pasta, prepared to package instructions – al dente

Cut the vegetables and turkey sausages into little bite sized pieces.  Heat oil in a non-stick pan and saute the onions and carrots for a couple minutes before adding the other vegetables.  Cook for about five minutes before also adding the chopped sausage.  Season with dried tarragon, salt and pepper and cook until the sausage starts to turn brown.  Add the garlic and cook an additional two to three minutes before adding the vinegar.  Cook until the vinegar has been absorbed icloud backup.
